Super Sunday (+ Recipes)

Let's talk Super Bowl shall we?

We tend to root for the Steelers when the Colts aren't playing, so we somewhat had a team to root for, although we weren't all that hardcore about the game itself this year.  It was a great excuse to hang out with friends and eat though, so we were all smiles.

Here are some thoughts on what went down...

-I truly dislike Christina Aguilera, always have, and even though I hate that she messed up the National Anthem, I'm kinda glad she wasn't all that wonderful.  Is that awful?

-The new Chevy commercial that boasts "real time Facebook status updates" via OnStar after the couples first date is bizarre.  I mean, do we really need our cars to read us the recent news feed updates?  Whoever came up with this idea needs to get a life.

-The Little Darth Vader/Volkswagen commercial was the cutest thing I've ever seen!  There were a few slightly funny commercials, but this was by far my favorite!

-I thought Usher was going to save the pitiful half-time show, but his little cameo was far too brief.  The whole thing was a fail in my book.

Now, onto my appetizers I contributed to the party...

 Tex Mex Wontons

This is the 3rd time I've made these for a party after getting the recipe from Natalie.  They're amazing, and our friends now ask me to make them all the time.

1 PKG SAUSAGE, BROWNED AND DRAINED WELL
1 SMALL CAN SLICED BLACK OLIVES, DICED (I hate olives, so I leave these out)
1 CUP RANCH
1/4 CUP DICED JALAPENOS (FROM JAR, NOT FRESH)
1.5 CUPS SHREDDED CHEDDAR CHEESE
1.5 CUPS SHREDDED MONTERREY JACK CHEESE
1 PKG WONTON SHELLS (IN THE FRIDGE SECTION NEAR DRESSING AND PRODUCE)
MIX FIRST 6 INGREDIENTS TOGETHER.

PLACE EACH INDIVIDUAL WONTON IN A MINI MUFFIN PAN. LIGHTLY PRESS DOWN TO FORM AN OPEN CUP.

SPOON ABOUT A TABLESPOON OF THE SAUSAGE MIXTURE INTO EACH CUP.

BAKE AT 350 DEGREES ABOUT 15 MINUTES OR UNTIL WONTONS START TO BROWN.

Cheesy Pigs in a Blanket

My SIL, VABelle, gave me this recipe a while ago and I finally got around to making them for the party tonight!  They were another huge crown pleaser, I'll be making these again for sure!

FLOUR
1 LB. PIZZA DOUGH (I used Pillsbury refrigerated thin crust)
4-6 HOT DOGS, CUT INTO THIRDS
3 TEASPOONS BROWN OR COURSE GRAIN MUSTARD (I used a little more)
3/4 CUP SHREDDED MONTEREY JACK CHEESE
1 LARGE EGG YOLK
1 TABLESPOON WATER

ROLL PIZZA DOUGH INTO AN 8 X 12 RECTANGLE USING FLOUR

USE A PIZZA CUTTER TO CUT THE PIZZA DOUGH INTO 2 X 4 IN. STRIPS, PLACE ONTO A COOKIE SHEET COVERED IN FOIL

PLACE HOT DOG AT THE TOP OF EACH DOUGH STRIP

BRUSH EACH DOUGH STRIP WITH MUSTARD, THEN SPRINKLE WITH 1 T. CHEESE BEFORE ROLLING THEM UP

WHISK TOGETHER EGG YOLK AND WATER, BRUSH ONTO TOP OF EACH ROLL

BAKE AT 425 DEGREES FOR 13-15 MINUTES

I hope you all had a great Super Bowl Sunday!

Yumm...your appetizers look delish! Wish I had one of those cheesy pigs in a blanket right now. I liked the VW Darth Vader commercial too. Also, the Doritos commercial where the guy licked the cheese off the other guy's fingers.

Yeah! So glad you love the wontons, they are always a crowd pleaser!! I dislike Christina too, she looked like she had not brushed her hair and her singing was off. Loved the darth vader commercial my favorite by far! Glad you had a fun super bowl party! Thanks for the pigs in a blanket recipe, I might make those for my son's birthday next weekend!

So happy you enjoyed the Pigs in a Blanket! They are a perfect Superbowl treat. I totally agree with you about Christina Aguilera. She was a horrible choice for the National Anthem. Lea Michele, on the other hand, was incredible! That's such a cute picture of you and Nick, it sounds like you guys had a great time!

Well...the half time show was good in the sense that I got to relive my youth and get off the couch to do the running man. That was good, at least! ;-)

I LOVE Natalie's wontons. Haven't made them in a while...hmmm....I might need to make those for no reason this week! The Darth Vader commercial was so cute. He was on the Today Show this morning - precious!
